How it all began….

Welcome to the Bus Stop Artisan Market & Workshop
We’re Deborah and Ryan Adams, and last year, we made a life-changing decision to leave the crowds of Florida behind and settle in the heart of Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Drawn by the promise of community and the serene beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, we sought a slower pace where we could connect with others and build something meaningful. That something turned out to be the Bus Stop Artisan Market & Workshop, a dream born from our desire to revitalize a historic downtown space and support the local spirit we’ve come to cherish.
Our journey began with a leap of faith. We purchased the old bus station, a weathered landmark in the center of town in July of 2024. With hard work and determination, we are transforming the building into a vibrant hub. The upstairs now includes private living spaces and a single Airbnb (hyperlink), welcoming visitors during events like the Blue Highway Fest. But the real heart of our project lies downstairs, where the Bus Stop Artisan Market and Workshop is taking shape. The space reflects our commitment to fostering creativity and community in Big Stone Gap.
The artisan market is our way of giving local artisans a brick-and-mortar home in the historic downtown. Here, talented makers from the area display their handcrafted wares—unique jewelry, cozy textiles, handmade pottery, and one-of-a-kind home goods. It’s a place where the region’s craftsmanship shines, offering visitors a chance to take home a piece of Appalachian heritage. The workshop complements this by inviting crafters of all levels to join in the fun. We offer classes like sip and paint, candle making, hat burning, and many more engaging activities, creating a welcoming environment for everyone to explore their creative side.
As we settle into this new chapter, Deborah and I are thrilled to lead this venture. Deborah brings her organizational and a lifetime of crafting skills to the forefront as the driving force behind the market, while Ryan focuses on bringing our shared vision to life. This isn’t just a business for us—it’s a way to give back to the community that has embraced us. We envision the Bus Stop as a gathering spot where locals and visitors can shop, learn, and connect, strengthening the bonds that make Big Stone Gap special.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to expand our offerings and deepen our roots here. We plan to host community events, introduce new workshops, and collaborate with local organizations to celebrate the area’s culture. Our goal is to make the Bus Stop a cornerstone of downtown, a place where creativity thrives and the spirit of Appalachia flourishes. Whether you’re a visitor exploring our market or a local joining a class, we invite you to be part of our story—a story of renewal, connection, and the joy of handmade craftsmanship in the heart of Big Stone Gap..
